We mention ‘premium quality Christmas trees’ a lot throughout our site so what does 'premium' actually mean?

In this case, we're talking fullness of shape and the overall look. Whilst all real Christmas trees are unique, ours will all have that beautiful traditional Christmas tree shape and will be full and bushy. We know how important a Christmas tree can be to making your home feel festive. For us, a beautiful real tree has always been the centre point of our Christmas – from decorating it together with specially picked baubles and gifts to just having it twinkle in the background, whilst watching Christmas TV with a mug of hot chocolate (or mulled wine!), a Christmas tree is a critical part of anyone’s Christmas! We are proud to offer luxury, premium quality Christmas trees at unbeatable prices online.

There are two main varieties of Christmas, both of which we sell online. There is the Norway Spruce variety and the Nordmann Fir variety. If you’re not quite a Christmas tree connoisseur, we’ve listed the basic points about each of them and have broken down the differences between the two so you can make an informed decision as to which tree is right for you.

Nordman Fir (Non-Drop)

The Nordman Fir is the most popular Christmas tree in the UK. This may be due to its classic shape and dark green glossy needles which are more children and pet friendly than other varieties. The tree holds its needles well, even after it has been cut, which makes it an ideal choice to have inside the home where conditions are often warm. The Nordmann Fir has gained popularity in recent years due to it's excellent needle retention qualities allowing you to have a cosy and warm home, whilst not worrying about your Christmas tree retaining its beauty. The Nordmann Fir is often called a non-drop tree, which like all cut trees, isn’t 100% true, however its retention is excellent and it is much more resilient to the heat than the Norway Spruce. This Christmas tree has soft, deep green foliage, smooth grey bark and a classic almost cartoon-like triangular shape. The needles can often give off a fresh, clean, citrus smell too.

Norway Spruce (Traditional)

The Fraser Fir is a uniformly pyramid-shaped tree. Its strong branches are turned slightly upward which gives the tree a compact and dense appearance. Its needles are flattened, dark-green with a medial groove on the upper side and two broad silvery-white bands on the lower surface. The needles are 2-3cm long, have a broad circular base, and are usually dark green on the upper surface and lighter on the lower surface. On lower branches, needles are two-ranked. On upper twigs, needles tend to curl upward forming a more "U-shaped" appearance. The Fraser Fir’s bark is usually grey or grey-brown, thin, and smooth. The combination of form, needle retention, dark blue-green colour, pleasant scent and excellent shipping characteristics has led to the Fraser Fir being a most popular Christmas tree species.

The Norway spruce originates in Northern Europe and can be found naturally growing on many UK Christmas tree farms. This variety of Christmas tree is very versatile, and can be grown in a wide variety of conditions and using many different soils. The Norway Spruce is a popular choice in the UK and can be found every year in both Trafalgar Square and 10 Downing Street. The spruce is famous for its triangular shape, green upward pointing needles, and distinctive pine fragrance. Its dense bushy shape makes it the ideal Christmas tree for decorating. Whilst often considered a tree which has a poor needle retention, if it is looked after well (see our care guide), this tree will remain in near perfect condition until January. Keep this Christmas tree cool and watered and you will have a wonderful Christmas centrepiece at a price befitting of the holiday season
